Post-view Chiefs vs. Bidvest Wits
Our week started with a tricky encounter against Bidvest Wits University at Rand Stadium. We did not know much about them before the game except that they had signed something close to 12 players during the pre-season. We also got a couple of DVDs from last season but in reality the team had changed a lot to what it was on the day. Nevertheless, we got a good result in a closely contested game.
In football at times you need Mother Luck to smile on you and I think we were a bit lucky taking into consideration the number of opportunities Wits created. I think the boys played very well and it was very important that we win our first competitive game following an intense preseason.
Tinashe Nengomasha sat out the game due to suspension. That was the reason why we moved Jeffrey Ntuka to the midfield - a position he played in the Vodacom Challenge Final against Manchester City.
Post-view Chiefs vs. Santos
I must take this opportunity once again to congratulate the boys against Santos even though we did not come back with three points in that particular game. I felt that we played well and created a couple of opportunities that unfortunately we did not use.
Santos beat us twice last season and showed that they are not pushovers. The championship is going to be tough this season but we will soldier on. I am happy that we finished the game without any serious injuries.
Pre-view Ajax Cape Town preview
The game against Ajax Cape Town this weekend is going to be a tricky encounter. We will play them over two legs, as they have to come to Orlando next week Sunday. It is important that we score as many goals we can away to make things easier for us when we host them next week.
I watched them when they played against Orlando Pirates twice last week, in the cup and in the league. There is no doubt that we are playing against a quality side backed by a quality technical team.
People have asked me if I am looking forward to meeting the club’s former coach, Muhsin Ertugral and if I feel under pressure coming after a coach who won a lot of cups for the club? It is not all about coaches at the end of the day.
I came here because I wanted to grow as a coach and it is my desire to win as much silverware as possible but I am not feeling any pressure in meeting him. One though has to respect what he did with the club when he was here.
Bafana Bafana vs. Serbia
It was good to see Abia Nale being called up to the Bafana Bafana squad against Serbia on Wednesday night. Although he did not get an opportunity to play any part in the game it was good for him and the club to have him in the team. He is back at the Village this morning (Thursday) in preparation of our game against Ajax Cape Town. Itumeleng Khune got to play the first 45 minutes of the game and I thought he did well.
Bafana Bafana are from a tournament (Confederations Cup) where they looked stronger. They also showed glimpses of what they can do against Serbia on Wednesday night. I think as for Serbia they played very well and proved they have what it takes to compete in the next World Cup here in South Africa.
