Soweto Derby: Chiefs vs. Orlando Pirates
I want to take this opportunity first and with Orlando Pirates midfielder, Benson Mhlongo a speedy recovery. I was asked many times before the game on how the Soweto derby fares against Patrizan Belgrade and Red Star Belgrade back home in Serbia. I honestly think it is the same and personally I love derbies. I remember very well playing in front of 90 000 supporters back home.
Going to the game itself, it was disappointing to come back with a single point after creating quite number of chances to win the game. I am also sure from the fans point of view, they would have loved to see couple of goals but it was not to be…for us it is something we have to address ahead of our game against Mpumalanga Black Aces. We create lot of chances but we do not finish them and this is a concern for the rest of the Technical Team.
Chiefs vs. Golden Arrows
We knew ahead of the game that the final few days before our encounter might have taken a lot out of Golden Arrows players. We changed the tactics a little for that game playing Kaizer Motaung Jr alone upfront although both Abia Nale and Josta Dladla supported him. This worked for us as we scored two quick goals in the first half. I was told after the game that the goal scored by Kaizer (Motaung Jr) was the Club’s 600th goal since the inception of the Premier Soccer League 15 years ago.
We are concerned with the condition of the pitch at Orlando Stadium and I am hoping that by the time we play against SuperSport towards the end of the month it would be much better. At the start of the season, it was best football pitch in the country and hopefully it will be given enough time to recover.
From the team’s point of view, we are delighted to play the games in the heart of Soweto. I have been here long enough to understand that the ground has a special place in the history of the Club and football general in South Africa.
Mpumalanga Black Aces vs. Kaizer Chiefs
We were back at training on Sunday following our game against Orlando Pirates on Saturday in preparation for our next trip to Mpumalanga against, Black Aces. They have not done very well this season but that is not for us as all the teams’ triple their effort when they are going to play us. We are taking this game seriously. I am happy that we did not have any injuries coming out of the Soweto derby last Saturday and all the guys are available with the exception of Tinashe Nengomasha who is out due to suspension.
Free State Stars vs. Kaizer Chiefs
There won’t be time for us to relax after traveling to Mpumalanga, as we will have to switch the focus to Free State Stars game. Like Aces, we do not know much about Free State Stars. We have received information from our analyst but first we will have to prepare fully for Aces game.
Wayne Matle & George Lebese
The two players were part of the South African development team that took part the Cosafa Challenge in Zimbabwe. We were all happy to see in particularly Wayne Matle in action as he missed the start of the pre-season due to injury. He played in the midfield and did very well.
George Lebese also did well and I am sure both players gained a lot of experience in this trip. This augurs well for us, as we want our players to gain as much experience as they can in order to improve their game. We will welcome them back at the Village later this week.
Itumeleng Khune together with Valery Nahayo have both recovered from their respective injuries. While Itu has started full training under the watchful eye of goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker, Valery (Nahayo) is doing light training. Both players should be available for selection before the end of the month.
