Absa Premiership: Chiefs vs. Santos
We expected a difficult game against Santos on Wednesday. It was a game where we created lot of chances but things never went our way.
Santos who looked very organized took their chance and won the game. I also suspect that the players’ minds were already on the Orlando Pirates game.
Sometimes you learn from a defeat and I think we learnt a lot from the setback against Santos.
Absa Premiership: The Soweto Derby
I would like to take this opportunity and once more pay tribute to the multitudes of our supporters who almost filled the stadium. It was nice to see them at the stadium at the back of the Santos game.
I also would like to congratulate my players for a job well done. Knowledge Musona was voted as Man of the Match for the wonderful two goals.
In my opinion, Tinashe Nengomasha was the main man but the Musona’s goals are more important. The General does a lot of good work for the team allowing the likes of Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Josta Dladla to attack.
Many people were also surprised to see Josta Dladla in the team. I have always said that I have confidence in all my players and I had no doubt that Josta, like all the players, will do the job for us on the day.
At the end of the day it was a wonderful game where Orlando Pirates created quite a number of chances but they did not use them.
Some sections of the media who were very critical of the derby I am sure they are now eating humble pie because the game was not so ‘boring’. The players from both teams played with zest and passion that is associated with any big derby in the world.
Personally, it was also a great feeling to beat Orlando Pirates for the first time in the league since taking the reigns as Kaizer Chiefs Coach at the beginning of last season.
I would like to wish Itumeleng Khune, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Sthembiso Ngcobo and the rest of the Bafana Bafana team all the best when they take on USA in Cape Town.
Knowledge Musona, Tinashe Nengomasha and Thomas Sweswe will be squaring up against Mozambique and I would like to wish them all the best.
I have always welcomed the fact that our players are doing duty for the national teams as it brings experience to the team.
I have to be concerned though when 7 of my players are playing with their national teams on Wednesday night ahead of the trip to Limpopo on Friday.
The TELKOM KNOCKOUT game against Santos on Saturday is a crucial game and I would have loved to have all the players training with us. There is little we can do though at this stage but I hope it will not be like this in future.
Telkom Knockout: Chiefs vs. Santos Preview
This weekend we are welcoming Santos once more having met them in the league a week ago. Santos has always been a very competitive team and they will not be pushovers on Saturday.
Preparations for the game are going well despite missing some of the players due to national team commitments.
I would like to urge the Kaizer Chiefs faithful to once again come in numbers as they did back in January this year when we won the Peter Mokaba Cup at the same stadium.
