Posted in Features, News on Jun 28, 2017.

Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) and Kaizer Chiefs are expunging the tension and seriousness out of South Africa’s most celebrated sport, with a soccer derby like no other – with those who love only “Kaizer Chiefs” up against those who are decidedly “Not Chiefs”. They will host the Comedy Central Shibobo Special, where soccer will meets funny, a comedy battle to be held at the Parker’s Comedy & Jive on Wednesday, 28 June 2017.

Hosted by award-winning comedian Jason Goliath, the never-done-before soccer special will see some of the country’s funniest comedians Lazola Gola, Nicholas Goliath, Thabiso Mhlongo, Richelieu Beaunoir, Mo Mothebe and Nqoba Ngcobo squaring up for the confrontation in a form of two teams Team Not Chiefs and Team Kaizer Chiefs. They will be refereed by comedian Joey Rasdien who will be joined by Kaizer Chiefs Captain, Itumeleng Khune and midfielder, George Maluleka.

Each team will comprise of three comedians per side and will go head-to-head in a 15-minute stand-up set against each other. The red and yellow cards will have no place in this match where the best strikers will defend themselves and only the fittest will survive until one team lifts the trophy!

Comedy Central’s Shibobo Special will be recorded in front of a live audience at Parker’s Comedy & Jive at Montecasino in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 28 June 2017, at 20:00.

Commented Dillon Khan, Vice President Comedy Central Africa, “It may not be football season, but that doesn’t mean fans are sleeping! The buzz before a derby cannot be mistaken and we’re bringing all that rivalry to the comedy stage between Kaizer Chiefs and Not Kaizer Chiefs. This Shibobo Special is going to be as closely fought by some of this country’s finest comedians. Who will win? Be there to find out!”

“We are truly excited about the event and really looking forward to a great night of fun and laughter,” said Jessica Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director. “We’ve selected 10 lucky winners from our Instagram platform who will join us for the event and recording and we are certain that they will enjoy themselves.”

Tickets for the show are available from Computicket or on the door at Parker’s on 28 June.  Tickets cost R150.  Doors open at 19:00. Over 18s only. Shibobo Special will premiere exclusively on Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) later in the year.
