Kaizer Chiefs’ newest signing, Faiz Abrahams, announced himself to the Amakhosi Faithful at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday in sensational fashion, scoring the winning goal in their 3-2 Betway Premiership victory over Siwelele with a glorious free kick.

Leading 2-1, Chiefs were awarded a free kick in the 76th minute deep inside Siwelele territory, roughly midway between the left touchline and the penalty area.

“When I went to take the free kick, (Wandile) Duba told me not to cross the ball for anyone but to try and score,” Abrahams reveals to www.kaizerchiefs.com.

The 21-year-old, who had come off the bench for only his second appearance in Gold & Black, duly obliged, making perfect contact with his cultured right foot to send the ball curling towards the far post, which it struck before finding its way into the net via a deflection off Siwelele goalkeeper, Samukelo Xulu to put Amakhosi 3-2 ahead. Siwelele pulled a late consolation goal back, which elevated Abrahams’ magnificent goal to being the ultimate difference maker.

“It felt great because I have been working very hard,” he says, adding that he intends to use this as a benchmark for his personal development. “I’m just going to keep working hard and giving my all in training. I aim to stay consistent and always keep my performance levels up.”

Abrahams, along with the Club’s passionate fanbase, will look forward to the weekend in anticipation of building further momentum when they face Polokwane City away from home.

“The coach will set a plan for this weekend, and we will go out and execute it,” Abrahams states frankly.

The Betway Premiership encounter between Polokwane City and Kaizer Chiefs kicks off at 15:00 on Saturday, 12 September, at the old Peter Mokaba stadium.
