Kaizer Chiefs continue their Betway Premiership campaign this afternoon when they face Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. This marks Amakhosi’s sixth league fixture of the season.
Chiefs head into the encounter buoyed by their 3-2 victory over Siwelele FC at Dobsonville Stadium last Sunday evening, where Mfundo Vilakazi, Wandile Duba, and second-half substitute Faiz Abrahams all found the back of the net. Polokwane City, meanwhile, shared the spoils in their last outing, drawing 2-2 away to Marumo Gallants.
On the Premiership log, Chiefs occupy third position with 11 points from their opening five matches, while the hosts are in 11th spot with six points from the same number of games.
Coach Fernando Da Cruz has opted for four changes to the starting line-up from last weekend’s clash. Bradley Cross returns after a lengthy absence, replacing Zitha Kwinika in defence. Reeve Frosler comes in for Dillan Solomons, Sibongiseni Mthethwa starts ahead of Mduduzi Shabalala, and Etiosa Ighodaro leads the attack in place of Wandile Duba.
The coach will once again deploy his preferred 4-3-3 formation.
Brandon Petersen retains his place in goal as he starts his seventh game of the season in all competitions.
The back four consists of Cross on the left, Thabo Moloisane and Inacio Miguel as the central pairing, with Frosler on the right.
‘Ox’ Mthethwa is the anchor in midfield, supported by Lebohang Maboe and Siphesihle Ndlovu.
Up front, Pule Mmodi operates from the left wing, Vilakazi continues on the right, and Ighodaro spearheads the attack.
The referee is Xola Sitela, with assistants from Lubabalo Pitsha and Thembinkosi Mangai. The fourth official is Korkie Mabilu.
This afternoon’s Betway Premiership clash between the Glamour Boys and Rise and Shine is scheduled for 15:00 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane where the weather is nice and warm.
The match is also live on television on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv, with commentary on selected SABC radio stations. Regular updates will be provided on Kaizer Chiefs’ X (formerly Twitter).
