The former President was invited to lunch with club managing director Kaizer Motaung, staff and the players. He was also presented with a replica trophy of the Mandela Cup.
"When we set out to participate in the Caf Cup Winners Cup, also known as the Mandela Cup, last year, and this being the 27th edition of the competition, it coincided with the number of years Dr Mandela spent away from home as a form of sacrifice towards liberation of this country,” said Kaizer Motaung.
"We felt duty bound in making a commitment towards showing our appreciation for the kind of investment you (Mandela) made for our liberation,” added Motaung. “The commitment we made was to win this trophy for Dr Mandela.”
Doctor Khumalo and Brian Baloyi presented Dr Mandela with a signed replica shirt while the coach also presented him with the number 27 jersey with 'Mandela' written on the back. The coach jokingly told the former president that he should feel free to join the team “as we are currently battling with strikers”.
