“We are ready and focused,” says coach Steve Komphela after Kaizer Chiefs completed their final training session ahead of Wednesday’s Telkom Knockout final at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.
“You can feel that vibe,” Komphela refers to the mood as he watches his players walking off the pitch. “It’s like an elephant, it is quiet but its presence is surrounded by a noisy sound because of its massive build.”
Komphela is satisfied with his preparations: “We’ve worked hard for this game. I am pretty sure we will give a good performance on Wednesday evening.”
Earlier on, speaking along his counterpart, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane, at a press conference, Komphela dismissed relying only on statistics: “Statistics are helpful, but they can be manipulated. The occasion is massive but we will be focused at the task at hand and that is playing a match with the sole objective to lift the trophy.”
The match is sold out. Kick-off is at 18:00.
