New signing, Christian Saile Basomboli, capped a bright start to his career at Kaizer Chiefs by notching up his first goal for the Club in their 2-0 Nedbank Cup win over Maritzburg United last Friday.

The Democratic Republic of Congo forward, who signed from Nchanga Rangers in Zambia during the January transfer window, gave Amakhosi the lead in extra time of the Round of 32 tie, before Ashley Du Preez cemented victory with a late second.

Saile also has an assist to his name from the three matches in which he has seen action since his arrival, having set up Du Preez’s goal against Royal AM on his debut.

“When I arrived I was ready to play and give all my energy to the team. So I was happy to come from the bench and get an assist in my first game, which we won 2-0,” he says.

“When the coach told me I was starting in the next game, it gave me a lot of confidence and now that I scored a goal I want to go out and score more.”

He appears to have settled well into his new surroundings and has already made a measurable contribution to Amakhosi’s season, something he aims to continue.

"As a forward you always want to get off the mark when you join a new club because that is what they brought you to do so, as I said, it gives me confidence to try to score in every game," says Saile.

Now he has his sights set on Amakhosi’s next opponents, Lamontville Golden Arrows, who visit Polokwane to face Chiefs in a DStv Premiership clash this weekend.

“I have played in three games so far and have a goal and an assist, so it is good but it is not finished. We’ve got another game on Sunday and I have to score a lot more goals for this team,” he says determinedly.

Sunday’s match against Arrows takes place at the Peter Mokaba stadium, Chiefs’ alternate home ground, and Saile is looking forward to returning to the venue where he made his Amakhosi debut.

“I’m looking forward to playing there again. I have a good memory from my first game there. It’s a beautiful stadium and the supporters were fantastic and we are going to give 100% for them this Sunday,” he concludes.
