The DStv Premiership competition is back in full swing after the FIFA International break, and Amakhosi have taken a very short trip to Dobsonville to face Soweto neighbours, Swallows FC for their first league meeting of the 2022-23 season.
Amakhosi were last in action against AmaZulu in the MTN8 Cup competition at FNB Stadium on Sunday. Before the FIFfA break, Chiefs faced SuperSport United a fortnight ago at FNB Stadium and Amakhosi were 2-1 winners in that league encounter.
Swallows lost their last league encounter against Golden Arrows by a big score line of 4-0 in what turned out to be coach Dylan Kerr’s last match in charge. He was relieved of his duties a few days later.
Amakhosi come into the match sitting in an unfamiliar 9th position on the log with 11 points from eight games. Swallows are 14th with eight points after as many outings in the DStv Premiership.
Chiefs are still without the injured Khama Billiat, Happy Mashiane and Mulomowandau Mathoho, who are out injured. Coach Arthur Zwane will also miss Lehlogonolo Matlou through suspension for his red card from the bench in Sunday’s MTN8 clash and Phathutshedzo Nange, who is out with flu.
Zwane has made two changes to the team that played against AmaZulu on the weekend, with goal scorer Keagan Dolly replacing Siyethemba Sithebe, and Reeve Frosler coming in for right-back, Dillan Solomons.
Notably, the coach has opted to include Samkelo Zwane in his team. The 20-year-old has done remarkably well in the Kaizer Chiefs development structures.
Chiefs will go with a 4-4-2 formation this evening.
Itumeleng Khune keeps his position between the sticks.
Frosler will be on the right of Amakhosi defence, with Edmilson Dove and Zitha Kwinika in the centre and S’fiso Hlanti on the left of a back four.
In the middle of the park Njabulo Blom will work with Yusuf Maart. They will be flanked by attacking midfielders Kgaogelo Sekgota on the left and Dolly on the right.
Up front, Ashley Du Preez will lead the attack alongside Caleb Bimenyimana.
Khune wears the skipper’s armband.
This evening’s match officials are referee, Thokozani Mkhize, assisted by Lalelani Mngadi and Jimmy Kgaphola. The fourth official is Buhle Jobela.
The Glamour Boys and the Dube Birds will kick off at 19:30 at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto. This Soweto Derby match will be live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv and various SABC Radio stations, with regular updates of the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
