Mahlatsi Replaces Saile in Nedbank Cup

Chiefs are back at home this evening for a Nedbank Cup clash against Motsepe Foundation Champioship side, Casric Stars at FNB Stadium.

The round of 16 clash will determine which team advances to the quarterfinals of the 2023 edition of the Nedbank.

Chiefs will try and take the momentum that saw them win two league games in a row into the game as they come up against a Casric Stars team hungry to do well in the cup and the league. The first division side topped the table earlier on but are now third, after drawing their last two league matches.

Amakhosi have won the Nedbank Cup a record 13 times and are looking add ar 14th title this season. As has been the story of this cup competition, Stars will want to cause an upset by advancing at the expense of the Glamour Boys.

Chiefs are without suspended target man Christian Saile Basomboli this evening after he received his fourth booking last weekend.

Coach Arthur Zwane has decided to bring on Kamohelo Mahlatsi in Basomboli’s place in attack.

With the introduction of another striker, Chiefs will still keep to their 4-5-1 formation this evening.

Interestingly, on the bench is Bruce Bvuma, who has not been part of the team for a while. Dillan Solomons is also on the bench after missing a number of games due injury. Amakhosi will also be happy to see Ashley Du Preez on the bench after he missed the last match through injury.

Brandon Petersen is the goalkeeper.

The defence from left to right will have S’fiso Hlanti, Zitha Kwinika, Edmilson Dove and Siyabonga Ngezana.

The middle of the park will be manned by Siyethemba Sithebe and Yusuf Maart.

Mduduzi Shabalala will play in front of the two midfielders with Mahlatsi on the left and Keagan Dolly on the right flank.

Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana will be the target man.

Dolly will captain the team.

The referee for this exciting clash is Olani Kwinda. His assistants are Khamusi Razwimisani and Brian Kganyago. The fourth official is Jelly Chavani.

Glamour Boys and the Casric Stars will kick off at 18:00 at FNB Stadium in Nasrec. The Last 16 of the Nedbank Cup match will be SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv and various SABC radio stations - with regular updates of the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
