“We just need one win to boost the confidence in the team, and to return to winning ways,” Steve Komphela says. “A win will take us back in the mix of the leader board. We are not panicking, but we want to avoid desperation to creep in the team.”

Kaizer Chiefs welcome Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on Sunday, 18 December (kick-off is at 15:30).

Amakhosi will be looking at maintaining their dominance over Rise and Shine, who they have met in six league matches since 2013/14 without a loss.

“We have a number of injury concerns in the team,” adds Komphela, “despite this, however, we will field a strong line-up on Sunday. We respect our opponents and City won’t be an exception. They are on a good run at the moment and their results speak for themselves.”

Komphela laments the absence of William Twala, who has recovered from his ankle injury but he has now picked up a calf strain. George Lebese is ruled out for six weeks with a stress fracture on his back, while Michelle Katsvairo has a contusion to his chest. “I will seek advice from the medical department before making a decision on Michelle,” comments the Chiefs coach.

Others out injured are Enocent Mkhabela and Edward Manqele, who has a knee problem. Tsepo Masilela, meanwhile, is close to full recovery, but he won’t be ready as yet for the City encounter.

However, there is good news as well ahead of this afternoon’s showdown, Willard Katsande and Sibusiso Khumalo will be back. They were suspended for the Bloemfontein Celtic match.

“Their return will give us some comfort in the selection process,” says Komphela. “As for City, we have intelligence on them. We are watching their danger man Jabu Maluleke with attention, although all their eleven players deserve attention. They are a good side.”

“All in all, we have to be ready to dig deep and get that elusive win,” concludes the Chiefs coach.

The tickets for the much anticipated match are sold for R40 at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide.
