Kaizer Chiefs’ reserve side will be back in action this Sunday when they host Mamelodi Sundowns’ reserves at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto. The midday kick-off promises another exciting clash in the DStv Diski Challenge.

The young Amakhosi began their campaign in style last weekend, edging Orlando Pirates 3-2 in a pulsating Soweto Derby in Durban. Coach Vela Khumalo is upbeat ahead of their second fixture, particularly following the return of five key players from international duty.

“We are putting final touches to our preparations today before welcoming Sundowns. We’ve had a full week to train and had a chance to work with our five gold medallists who won the COSAFA U20 tournament in Mozambique,” Khumalo said.

While those five players return, a number of their lads will be involved in this weekend’s Engen Champ of Champs tournament taking place in Pretoria, Chiefs are expected to make some changes to their line-up.

Khumalo explained, “Some of the players who played last weekend will be missing as they have been drafted into the U18 Engen Champ of Champs team in Pretoria. It also shows we play with quite a young team in the DDC. We are forced to replace them temporarily and it’s good that they are representing Gauteng at this national tournament.”

Looking ahead to the clash against Sundowns, Khumalo added, “We are looking forward to a very competitive match because we know they have been watching us, and we promise supporters to do our best.”

Supporters can look forward to an entertaining and competitive encounter when Amakhosi reserves take on the young Brazilians. Entry is free at Dobsonville Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 12:00 midday.
