Kaizer Chiefs reserve team captain Jordan Sampson who picked up the accolade as man of the match from their last outing – a 4-1 win over Chippa United – is hoping that they can continue their recent run which has seen them score four goals in each of their last three league games.

The young Amakhosi will host Sekhukhune on Saturday at Dobsonville Stadium in their DStv Diski Challenge clash.

Sampson is also targeting a faster start against Sekhukhune than his team had against Chippa despite their emphatic win last week.

“I think first the half was disappointing,” intones the skipper. “We certainly got better in the second half. I believe we worked harder, so we improved collectively. It was great for us to score four goals.”

Sampson also believes that the turnaround of the team since the start of the new year has a lot to do with a host of players being available after the team’s struggles towards then of last year.

“The guys finished their matric exams, then had holidays and time to relax – now the pressure is off,” Sampson adds. “I am happy the team has had the opportunity to work together of late. We do not have interruptions while we are training, and we are getting to see each other more often. This helps in building our team spirit.”

Personally, though, the skipper is definitely looking to lead by example as he aims to give more to the team’s course. “My form has been disappointing,” he reflected before acknowledging that he is looking for an improvement. “I know how good I am, and how good I want to be. I just need to continue working towards that.”

The Chiefs reserves’ three games since the turn of the year have produced 18 goals at 6 goals per game. They have netted 12 in this time at four goals per game and conceded five in their first game of 2022, which was a close 5-4 loss to Royal AM. The team has improved defensively conceding 1 goal in their last 2 games, while scoring 8. A win against Sekhukhune will help them continue their progression up the table.

The DDC game between Chiefs and Sekhukhune reserve sides will kick off at 12:00 at Dobsonvile Stadium in Soweto.
