Kaizer Chiefs, unbeaten in their first seven league games of the season, will be aiming to extend their run when they return from the international break to host Stellenbosch FC at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening, 13 September. Amakhosi last went through their opening eight games of a season unbeaten in 2015/16.

Match Facts

This will be the 15th league clash since their first league meeting - a 4-0 win for Chiefs in Cape Town in 2019 - although they had met twice before in Nedbank Cup games in 2016/17 and 2017/18, when Stellenbosch were still competing in the second tier.

In total, Chiefs have won seven games, Stellenbosch four, and three games have ended in draws. They met four times last season, in two cup games and twice in the league, with Stellenbosch winning three times, including one on penalties, while Chiefs won once. Chiefs have scored in their last four league games against Stellenbosch.

History was made in this fixture in 2022 when Caleb Bimenyimana scored a hattrick of penalties for Amakhosi in their 3-1 away win, to become the first player to score a trio of spot kicks in a PSL match.

Opposition Watch

Former Chiefs academy graduate and first team player, Njabulo Blom, joined Stellenbosch on deadline day in September from Indonesian Super League side, Borneo Samarinda. Another addition to their squad is Ghanaian international, Solomon Agbasi. Both players could make their debuts against Amakhosi.  There are strong links between the sides, with current Stellenbosch forward, Ashley Du Preez having recently returned from a spell with Amakhosi, during which he scored twice for Chiefs against his present club. Current Chiefs players, Langelihle Phili and Faiz Abrahams, were previously on the books of Stellenbosch.

Stellenbosch currently lie seventh in the league, having ended a three-game winless run with a 1-0 away win over Kruger United in their last game before the international break.

Kaizer Chiefs

Amakhosi drew their last league game prior to the international break 0-0 away against Golden Arrows. Last season Chiefs’ record in their first game back after international breaks saw them win twice, lose twice and draw once. They won their last two games when returning back to action after the 2025 edition of the AFCON and the March international break.

Chiefs still have four major injury concerns, with Brandon Petersen returning to individual training recovering a knee injury, Lebohang Maboe - who has played in all eight of Chiefs’ games this season - nursing an ankle injury, while Phili and Siphesihle Ndlovu remain long term absentees.

Chiefs, like Stellenbosch, do not have any suspensions for the game and Amakhosi coach, Fernando Da Cruz is hopeful of having a strong crop of fit players to choose from.

The Glamour Boys come into this game having won three and drawn four of their opening seven league matches, and will target three points to take their overall tally to 16 and ensure they keep pace with the frontrunners.
