“This is the cherry on top,” Tsepo Masilela reacted after being handed over the Kaizer Chiefs Players’ Player of the Season.

“To be selected for this award by my own teammates is very special. However, I always stress that the team comes first, everybody played a part in us winning two trophies.”

The left-back was in excellent form this season and the 30-year-old played a major part in the Amakhosi lifting the 2014/2015 Absa Premiership and MTN8 trophies.

Masilela missed this season two league matches, against SuperSport United and Maritzburg United. Amazingly, Chiefs lost both matches (two of the only three losses in the Absa Premiership).

The defender arrived at the Amakhosi in 2012 after having played for years overseas in Israel and Spain.

“I came to Chiefs to win trophies,” Masilela says. “Because that’s what I want – I want to achieve and win things.”

Since joining the Amakhosi, the left-back has bagged four trophies in three seasons. Furthermore, Chiefs broke all kinds of Absa Premiership records this season, including for most wins (21), since the PSL went to 16 clubs in 2002.

“It was a roller coaster ride,” Masilela reflects on the season, before adding, “now I go on holiday to recharge the batteries to be sharp when pre-season starts. I want to win more trophies with Chiefs.”
