The defender player started last season in 16 matches (12 league and four cup games), coming on in four more league fixtures. That was a big improvement on his first season as an Amakhosi when Cardoso only started in three league games, while he came on as a substitute in one.
The 28-year-old scored his first goal for Kaizer Chiefs last season, netting the equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Ajax Cape Town in February.
Cardoso didn’t go anywhere during the break. “I was just around Johannesburg,” he reflects on the three-and-a-half week break. “It was to relax a bit. I had a good rest.”
Amakhosi participate in two pre-season friendly tournaments, the Maize Cup on Saturday, 15 July, and the Carling Black Label Champion Cup on Saturday, 29 July.
The Chiefs defender stresses the important of pre-season. “What you put in at training during pre-season is what you get out for the rest of the season,” Cardoso says.
