“It was all worked out at practice and, above all, through extra training,” says Kaizer Chiefs’ Siphelele Mthembu. The striker netted a hat-trick of goals when Amakhosi brushed aside Edu Sports 4-0 to march to the Nedbank Cup Last 16 draw.

“The coach instructed us to work on our heading at goal,” reflects Mthembu on Chiefs’ game plan. “He worked with us to perfect the set-pieces. I am glad it all worked out.”

Mthembu got to his hat-trick thanks to scoring in the 19th, 63rd and 93rd minute. His strike partner Katlego Mphela headed in the third goal in the 84th min.

Mthembu’s performance earned him the Man-of-the-Match award: “All glory goes to God. I am happy, but I will bear in mind to continue working hard for the sake of the team. I am happy for now.”

The 27-year-old striker assures the Amakhosi faithful that “from here onwards, I hope to continue improving, score more goals and help the team win.”
