On the occasion of his 77th birthday, two former Amakhosi stalwarts have shared their best wishes with the Club’s executive chairman and founder Mr Kaizer Motaung as they also reminisced on the times they spent together with him as teammates, colleagues and friends.

Former Chiefs goalkeeper Joseph ‘Banks’ Setlhodi was pleased to pass on his well wishes to the Chairman. “I want to wish ‘Chincha Guluva’ a happy birthday and good health to the old man. At our age, it is important to have good health and I wish the chairman good health for many years to come.”

‘Banks,’ as the Chiefs veteran keeper is affectionately known also shared a story from his playing days as a roommate with the Chiefs founder. “I used to share a room with him, and he used to talk all night about his vision for the club,” divulged Setlhodi. “I was a million miles away from what he was thinking. By the morning, I would forget everything. He went on to see through his vision.”

Another of Chiefs’ early year legends Ebson ‘Sugar’ Mugoyo shared his message from a golf course in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. He too like Setlhodi spoke fondly of the Chiefs Chairman.  “When I came to Chiefs in 1975, Kaizer took me into his home. Once I was settled at Chiefs, I moved on my own, such was his kindness,” says Muguyo.

Mugoyo is hoping to see the chairman sometime in person in the not too distant future.

“I would like to say have a Happy Birthday Mr. Chairman, I will hopefully see you soon and travel from Bulawayo to visit you in Johannesburg,” added the former Chiefs player.

Banks was a Chiefs player from the club’s founding in 1970 until 1985, while Mugoyo was with the club from 1975 to 1980. Muguyo had his best season in 1976 contributing with 26 goals in all competitions that campaign, which included him scoring both legs of the BP Top 32 Final against AmaZulu. While Banks goes down in Chiefs’ folklore as one of the Club’s longest-serving players and is the goalkeeper who has scored the most number of goals for Amakhosi. Both legends of the Club still share a close bond with Kaizer Chiefs and the chairman.
