The world celebrates Mother’s Day on Sunday, a special day for children to show their appreciation and love for their mothers and mother figures worldwide.

The Kaizer Chiefs website joined in the celebrations by finding out how some of the players plan to spoil their Mothers on Sunday.

“I will unfortunately not be in KZN on Sunday,” Ryan Moon says about his plans on Mother’s Day. His parents live in KwaZulu-Natal.

“I will treat my Mom with money to buy herself something she would enjoy. My mother, like my father, has always been there for me. It didn’t matter if I played in Newcastle or Cape Town, she was there. And if she couldn’t make it, my mother would be the first to call me after the match.”

Siphelele Mthembu’s mother also lives in KwaZulu-Natal, in Melmoth, to be precise. “I will send my mother a gift,” the striker comments. “She has always been a pillar of strength for me. She taught me that dedication leads to success.”

Kaizer Chiefs’ Zimbabwean players will, of course, not be able to see their mother on Sunday. Willard Katsande received his first soccer boots from his mother when he was 12 years old - despite the family being underprivileged.

“I am the only son in the family,” Katsande reacts. “I am sending some money to my sister in Zimbabwe, she will then buy a nice gift for my mother. My mother has worked tirelessly to make sure that my siblings and I were comfortable. Mother’s Day is a day to show your mother how special she is.”

A player who is able to visit his mother is Lorenzo Gordinho. “I plan to go out for lunch with my mother as well as the rest of the family,” he says. “She’s the backbone of the family and has always provided us with advice. She has supported me so much. However, to be honest, a mother’s love and devotion should be celebrated every day, not only on Mother’s Day.”

We at Kaizer Chiefs wish all the mothers a wonderful day. We hope that you will enjoy your day and that your children will show their appreciation and love for the important role you play in their lives.
