Following the big announcement earlier this week, Kaizer Chiefs’ Marketing and Commercial Director, Jessica Motaung, met with SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan, who congratulated and endorsed her on her appointment as a member of the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Organising Committee for Women Football Standing Committee.

The meeting took place at SAFA’s Headquarters, SAFA House, on Friday afternoon. Motaung and Jordaan were joined in the meeting by SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe and Jack Maluleka, who is a SAFA NEC member and Chairperson of SAFA’s Technical Committee.

Dr Jordaan congratulated Motaung for her achievement, saying: “We are happy about your appointment and look forward to your contribution. You come at a wonderful time for South Africa, Africa and World Football. And we need women like yourself to contribute towards building women’s football at all levels. We believe you will do a good job.”

“Coming from one of the biggest Clubs in Africa, Kaizer Chiefs, is a big credit to South African and African football. We give credit to SAFA and CAF for selecting you and we believe you will contribute positively to the committee to grow the sport and take it to where it should be.”

Motaung, who is on her way to the United States of America for a work visit today, thanked Dr Jordaan for the invitation, and his message of support and approval.

“It is an honour and privilege to have been selected on the committee by CAF,” said Motaung.

“Looking at what has been done here locally by SAFA means the organisation has flown the flag quite high in as far as women’s football is concerned in South Africa and the continent. There’s a lot of work that has been done that people don’t realise. We now have to take it to the next level.”

SAFA runs one of the best league’s on the continent in the Hollywoodbets Super League, and Sundowns Ladies won the CAF Champions League.

“We would like to see more teams in the league work on launching women’s teams so we can have a fully fledged and professional women’s league,” said Motaung.

“I look forward to working with you Dr Jordaan and the CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe in building women’s football and growing the game,“ concludes Motaung.

Dr Jordaan said he looked forward to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off in July 2022 in Morocco, and wished Jessica well in working on the continental showpiece with her committee members and CAF.
