Kaizer Chiefs arrived in Durban on Friday in readiness to play host to Chippa United in the 2023/24 DStv Premiership opening fixture on Sunday.

The popularity of the Glamour Boys in eThekwini is always reflected in the huge crowds that fill the Club’s alternative home venue, the Moses Mabhida stadium, and this weekend another bumper turnout is expected to usher Amakhosi into the new campaign. The action will unfold at 15:00.

Speaking on arrival on the east coast, Club captain, Itumeleng Khune, delivered a message to the fans who are eager to get a look at the latest edition of their beloved team.

“Yes, we all want positive results in every match we play,” he says, “but as everyone is aware , we have a new coach. He was trying different combinations and different philosophies, so I think we ticked all the boxes on the plan that we have during our preparation matches, and we are excited. We are looking forward to the start of the season.”

The skipper expressed his happiness at being back in Durban for a home match, as he continued, “We’ll play Chippa on Sunday; it’s our home game away from home but, as you know, we always enjoy being here. We are loved and we also appreciate the love we get so it’s very important that we start the league with three points.”

Amakhosi warrior, Edmilson Dove, echoed Khune’s sentiments, adding, ”From my side,
I think we have had a good pre-season. The aim is to do better than last season and bring back the glory days, not only for ourselves but for the supporters as well. So, our aim is to start the season well and go back to Joburg with the three points.”

Fleet-footed full back, Dillon Solomons is another player who can’t wait to get the season under way, as he explained, “The two pre-season games were good preparation for us and gave us a sense of what to expect. We want to start the season well and then just keep the momentum going.”

The match kicks off at 15:00 on Sunday, 6 August at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban.

Tickets for the match are available online at www.ticketpros.co.za or through TicketPro outlets including Spar and Boxer supermarkets, Sasol and Shell filling stations as well as Postnet outlets.
