Having endured a lean spell since the turn of the year where goals and points have been hard to come by, Amakhosi goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma still harbours ambitions of a respectable finish to the DStv Premiership season, starting with their clash against SuperSport United in Polokwane this weekend.

“We have been in a difficult situation as a team recently,” he tells www.kaizerchiefs.com, “We all know it and we are looking forward to this game as an opportunity to put things right. We are working very hard to try to turn our season around, and this game is the first chance for us to do it.”

The defeat against Richards Bay has Amakhosi currently sitting in the unfamiliar position of 10^th on the log, with 30 points from 24 matches. Yet, a win on Saturday will bring them to within two points of 5^th placed Matsatsantsa a Pitoli with five rounds of the campaign left.

“Despite our recent form falling below the standards we set for ourselves, it is still our intention to win all of our remaining games in order to finish as high as possible. Obviously, Top 8 is the minimum requirement and with the group of players we have, I believe we are capable of winning every game until the end of the season,” Bvuma says, before adding, “Let me be clear, as Kaizer Chiefs we should always be competing for first place in any competition but we have been through a tough patch and we are determined to finish as well as we can.”

The talented shot-stopper, who has established himself as first choice between the sticks this season, is mindful that their opponents are also coming off a loss in their previous outing and expects nothing less than total effort from their opponents.

“SuperSport are a good team, which is reflected by their position in the league. We all know how good Coach Gavin (Hunt) is and how his teams work hard and are willing to run for 90 minutes,” he explains. “So, whatever they do, we will need to do better than that and everyone in our squad is prepared to go the extra mile on Saturday.”

Bvuma concludes by reminding the Amakhosi Faithful just how much their support means to the team, which is desperate to bring them some joy.

“Playing for Chiefs comes with the privilege of the unbelievable support of fans all over the country. They support us through everything, including in the difficult moments, they still part with their hard-earned money to come and cheer us on,” he says, hand on heart, “Trust me, every player is truly grateful for their support and we know the only thing that we can do to pay them back for their loyalty is to win games. I can promise that no matter what, we will always give our best because we understand our responsibility to our amazing fanbase.”

The match at the new Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane kicks off at 17:30 on Saturday, 27 April.
