After opening their 2023/24 season with a home fixture against Chippa United in Durban on Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs will make a short trip to the nation’s capital, Pretoria, where they will be visiting league title holders Mamelodi Sundowns for their second DStv Premiership match of the new season.

This explosive match is billed for the Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium in Atterdgeville, west of Pretoria on Women’s Day, 9 August.

Hosts, Mamelodi Sundowns opened their account for the new season with a 1-0 away win against Sekhukhune United in Polokwane on Friday, while visitors Amakhosi picked up a point after playing to a 0-0 draw against Chippa United at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.

Coach Molefi Ntseki and his troops will have limited time to prepare for this big match while Sundowns have had two extra days, but the coach believes it’s part of the game.

Sundowns coaching staff, led by Rhulani Mokoena and Manqoba Mgqithi, travelled to Durban to watch the Chiefs vs Chippa game on Sunday to ensure they gather as much intel as possible in preparation for Wednesday’s big clash.

Chiefs will be happy to have Ashley Du Preez and Ranga Chivaviro back in the team after not taking part in the pre-season friendlies due to injuries. Chivaviro started the match but was substituted in the 71st minute and Du Preez came on in the 60th minute.

The coach will assess his team to see how ready they are for a testing match against Sundowns.

The match promises to be one of the best clashes of the first round, with both teams still testing different combinations after changes in the transfer window.

Tickets for the big encounter are available online at www.ticketpros.co.za or through TicketPro outlets including Spar and Boxer supermarkets, Sasol and Shell filling stations, as well as Postnet outlets, at R40 per ticket.

Supporters are urged to buy tickets early to see Amakhosi’s second DStv Premiership game of the season when it kicks off at 15:00 on Women’s Day (Wednesday, 9 August) at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.
