Following their successful passage into the Nedbank Cup semifinals, Kaizer Chiefs are back in Betway Premiership action at 19:30 on Wednesday when they host Cape Town City at FNB stadium, where they will be looking to add three more points to their league tally.

Skipper, Yusuf Maart will be hoping for a starting place in coach Nasreddine Nabi’s line-up after coming off the bench against Stellenbosch on the weekend.

“The win on Saturday gives us confidence, and I want to thank the fans for the amazing support they gave us in Gqeberha,” he tells www.kaizerchiefs.com, adding, “We are aware that City beat us last time we played them so we are extra motivated to go there and put the effort in to win.”

With the team going deep into the national cup competition, fixtures are coming thick and fast, with little turnaround time. However, Maart does not see that as an impediment to their ambitions for the remainder of the campaign.

“We manage the load because the coaches and (strength and conditioning coach, Safi) Majdi understand how to look after us,” he explains, “We eat properly, sleep properly and have good recovery between games.”

Amakhosi will have a point to prove in front of their home fans, as they lost the reverse fixture to the Citizens earlier in the season and Maart, although slightly weary of the opposition, believes they have a strategy in place to come out on top.

“It’s not easy to prepare for a team like City because they can play different styles of football, but we do know they like to run,” he admits, before clarifying, “For us, as a team, it is more about executing the coach’s instructions on how we should play.”

With the end of the Club’s trophy drought potentially only three Nedbank Cup games away, and a CAF qualifying place in the league still within their grasp, Maart confirms that everyone at the Club is totally focused on achieving those objectives, saying, “We are all trying to push each other to get to a level where we can just concentrate on winning each and every game from now until the end of the season.”

The midfielder has endured an up-and-down season, interrupted by injury, that has seen him miss some games and sit on the substitute’s bench for others, yet as the group’s leader, he remains fully dedicated to the team cause over and above his personal situation.

“Everyone in the squad wants to play but we are all committed to what the coach decides, so you also have to be happy for the person who gets selected. That’s how football is, because it is a team game and we are all in it together,” he says in conclusion.

Tickets for the match are on sale through the Kaizer Chiefs website, www.opentickets.co.za, https://www.stadiummanagement.co.za/tickets/ including Shoprite and Checkers at R60 per ticket.

Wednesday’s game against the Citizens will kick off at 19:30 at FNB Stadium.
