A big day for Madiba – Mathoho

“This is a big day for Madiba,” comments Amakhosi and Bafana Bafana defender Erick Mathoho. “I feel good about the day because this is for Madiba.” Tower as he is affectionately known will miss tonight’s clash against Senegal in the annual Nelson Mandela Challenge played at Orlando Stadium. Kick-off is at 19:00 tonight.

“We are who we are because of the contribution that Madiba made to the world,” refers Tower. “We will forever be indebted to Madiba for the role he played in our land.”

Tower’s fellow teammate at Amakhosi, goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune will retain the armband when Bafana Bafana marches onto the field to honour the Icon and our struggle hero, Madiba.

“The match itself is big for us as players and the Nation at large,” Tower confirms the status of the match played under the auspices of Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund. “We lost against Mauritania in the Afcon Qualifiers much to the disappointment of everyone and we have tonight to do damage control.”

Tower is confirmed to be out of this one, the extent of his injury will be confirmed in due course.

“I am disappointed to miss the match,” concludes Tower. “I wanted to be part of the playing team but, all is not lost because my countrymen will do the job for us tonight.”

Buying a ticket for the game at a cost of R60 will go a long way as a contribution to fundraising for the less privileged children. Tickets can be purchased at Computicket outlets, Shoprite and Checkers stores throughout the country.
