A Kaizer Chiefs game is like a festival – Jerome McCarthy

“A Kaizer Chiefs game is like a festival,” says former Amakhosi winger Jerome McCarthy. “It’s an amazing experience with all those singing and dancing supporters. I will certainly be in attendance at the BidVest Wits match on Saturday. I am looking forward to it.”

Chiefs face the Clever Boys in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, 19 December (kick-off is at 18:00).

McCarthy was born in Cape Town’s Hanover Park. He joined Amakhosi in 1999 after having enjoyed a fantastic season with Santos. However, his stay at Chiefs was a bit unfortunate as he badly broke his ankle early into the 1999/2000 season. As a result of this, the midfielder played too few games during his stay at Glamour Boys.

McCarthy is an Amakhosi 4 Life. “Even while growing up, I was a fervent Kaizer Chiefs supporter,” he says. “The whole family supported the club.”

“Kaizer Chiefs are an institution,” McCarthy continues. “It’s not just a soccer club, it’s part of what South Africa represents. When you talk about Spain, you talk about Barcelona and Real Madrid. When you talk about South Africa, you talk about Kaizer Chiefs. It’s about a club representing a country.”

McCarthy thinks it’s great that Chiefs come to play three of their Absa Premiership’s home games in the Cape of Love & Peace this season, the first being the one against the Clever Boys.

“I think that is fantastic for people in the Cape,” he continues. “At present, clubs like Santos and Vasco da Gama are no longer playing the Absa Premiership, it’s only Ajax Cape Town. That means that Capetonians can only see the Amakhosi once a year.”

“That deprives us from some fabulous matches with a festive atmosphere in the stadium, especially as people from the Eastern Cape also love to come to Cape Town to see Chiefs live in action. Kaizer Chiefs have an aura about them. It’s fantastic that Amakhosi have decided to bring their special brand of football to the people in the Mother City.”

“I want kids in the Cape to know what Chiefs are all about and use the opportunity to see the best South African soccer club,” McCarthy concludes. “A talented youngster must always to aspire to play for the best and that’s Kaizer Chiefs.”

Amakhosi’s three home games in Cape Town will feature the following opponents:

• Saturday, 19 December 2015

Bidvest Wits

Kick-off at 18:00

• Sunday, 24 January 2016

Platinum Stars

Kick-off at 15:30

• Saturday, 20 February 2016

SuperSport United

Tickets for all the three matches, dubbed 'Take 3' tickets for the ‘Cape of Love & Peace’ are on sale at all Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide.

There won’t be any tickets sold at the stadium. However, there is a Computicket at the Waterfront, which is close to the stadium.
