“This will be a special moment,” states Camaldine Abraw about the opportunity to play in his first Soweto Derby on Saturday.
Kaizer Chiefs will look to maintain their unbeaten run in the league when they meet arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in an Absa Premiership match at the FNB Stadium on 31 October 2015, kick-off at 15:30.
Abraw is looking forward to his first Soweto Derby match: “It will be an honour if I am selected to play a part in the match, but it is not about me, it is about the team and the three points at stake.”
Amakhosi are placed fourth on the log following their 1-0 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces on Tuesday, thanks to Abraw’s headed goal.
“A league match is about three points, independent of the opponent” the Togolese striker points out.
The Buccaneers visit FNB Stadium at the back of a second successive league loss when they went down 2-0 at home to Golden Arrows on Wednesday. The Buccaneers are placed 13th on the Absa Premiership log with five points from seven matches.
“We are focusing on ourselves, on our mission and our form is what matters,” stresses Abraw.
In head-to-head stats, Chiefs and Pirates have met in 59 league matches since 1985 with Amakhosi winning on 24 occasions compared to 12 for the Buccaneers, while 23 matches have been drawn.
“We are taking each match seriously,” concludes Abraw. “Chiefs are a big team and we are not comfortable with our league position at this stage.”
Team news: Keegan Ritchie is ruled out with a slight injury to his foot. Daniel Cardoso started training with the squad, but still lacks match fitness and will not be available for selection.
Meanwhile, David Zulu has returned to the field with light training as part of his recovery process after an ankle surgery.
On Friday afternoon only 3 200 tickets in the category of Level 2 (R150) were still available. Fans are encouraged to buy parking tickets, general parking at R30.00, disabled parking at R50.00, bus parking at R300.00, premium at R120.00 and transport hub at R80.00. Tickets are sold at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide.
