“To finish the year with a win is a morale boost for the team,” reflects defender Lorenzo Gordinho on Kaizer Chiefs’ 2-1 win over Bidvest Wits on Saturday.
Gordinho, who scored the winner, was selected as the Man of the Match after dishing out a fine performance in a game which was played in front of a good and enthusiastic crowd at the Cape Town Stadium.
“We knew after the disappointment of the Telkom Knockout final that we had to show up and rectify our mistakes,” continues the defender. “We wanted to take charge of the game and a win was the only option on the day.”
Asked about his pre-match preparation, Gordinho comments with a smile on his face: “I had my standard supper when camping. However, even then I could feel the determination - we were all motivated to prove a point against Wits.”
“I’m glad having been able to help the team get the three points by netting the winning goal,” Gordinho. “At training we rehearsed the scenario and I was at the right place to put the ball in.”
This was the 21-year-old’s first goal in an official match for Chiefs - a milestone indeed.
“Being chosen as the Man of the Match for the first time was a great feeling too and a major confidence boost,” the Amakhosi defender adds. “I definitely want to give more performances like that, if not better, in the future."
“I also would like to take this opportunity to wish the entire Kaizer Chiefs Family a safe and merry Christmas,” concludes Gordinho on a high note. “I look forward to a prosperous 2016.”
