“We are all clear and ready to go,” Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says ahead of this afternoon’s much awaiting Soweto Derby.
“We are aware of the euphoria surrounding this event. We have to deal with that, which is a very important aspect of our football culture.”
Amakhosi will be visiting their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates for an Absa Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, 29 October (kick-off is at 15:30).
Komphela went on to confirm once more that jersey number 12, George Maluleka, will not feature in this game due to serving his last of a two match ban, due to the red-card he received against Ajax Cape Town.
“The match itself is going to be a good contest,” continues Komphela. “We hope it will make for an entertaining spectacle for our supporters.”
The match has all the ingredients of making it a humdinger with the Glamour Boys topping the log with 13 points after 6 games and Pirates occupying fourth place with 9 points from 5 matches.
The most recent league Derby was played on 30 January 2016. It was Pirates’ home game. It finished in a 1-1 draw.
The match will be preceded by a tussle between the Kaizer Chiefs Legends and Orlando Pirates Legends at 12:30.
The first Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates was played on 24 January 1970, only 17 days after Amakhosi’s foundation.
