Chiefs go into the half time break at Newlands all square with the Urban Warriors after chasing the game for much of the first half, after the Urban Warriors took the lead via a David Obua own goal.
Gert Schalkwyk ensured there would be parity at the half time break after Arthur Zwane sent Songwe Chalwe through on goal, Chalwe rounded Josephs in the Ajax goal and squared the ball to Schalkwyk who knocked the ball home from close range on the stroke of half time.
The Amakhosi have had to work very hard in the first half and went down early on after David Obua deflected Nhlanhla Tshabalala’s shot past Fernandez to give Ajax the lead.
After taking the lead Ajax began to take control of the game and if not for Fernandez in the Chiefs goal the Amakhosi could have gone further down, it was a superb double save from the Chiefs minder on the half hour mark first from Seuntjie Mothawaja and than Granwald Scott that seemed to inspire the rest of his team mates on.
First Ditheko Mototo made Ajax keeper Moneeb Josephs earn his keep with a thunder bolt from just outside the 18 yard area and than David Mathebula also brought the best in the Ajax keeper with a shot from distance.
As half time neared Chiefs continued piling on the pressure, Schalkwyk was first denied by Josephs who bravely disposed him in a one on one situation.
Five minutes later the Chiefs midfielder had cause for celebration after Arthur Zwane sent through Songwe Chalwe who easily rounded Josephs and set up Schalkwyk for the equalizer.
