With Chiefs having played their last league fixture of 2010 on December 22 the team were given four days off and it was an early morning return to duty for the Amakhosi on Monday.
“We had four days of rest and now it is time to work again, this week our training won’t be as intense but from next week we will train as we normally would during the season.
We will train till Thursday and the team will have Friday and Saturday off and will resume on Sunday again” explained Amakhosi coach Vladimir Vermezovic.
With Chiefs to face Mamelodi Sundowns, Ajax Cape Town and Bloemfontein Celtic, three teams currently in the top five positions in the league standings when the Absa Premiership resumes in January, the Chiefs coach believes that it is important for the Amakhosi to be prepared to face those three teams plus Amazulu and Maritzburg United as they will play five games in the opening month of 2011.
“We do not have a lot of time” divulged the Chiefs coach.
Before adding on, “January is an important month for us we have lots of difficult games against teams that are in the top half of the league table we have to be-careful and as a result we have to work hard.
Right now we do not have time to go on holiday and celebrate, my players are professional and they know that this is the time for us to work.”
Chiefs finished off their final two fixtures of 2010 by defeating BIDVest Wits and Mpumalanga Black Aces Vermezovic was pleased with the fact that his team won those fixtures.
As he said “it was important for us to win those two games as it helped keep us in the title race with Sundowns.
We have important games against them and Ajax and we have two derby’s in February. Winning those games was necessary.”
The only Chiefs player missing from Monday’s training session was Venezuelan striker Jose Torrealba who went home for the festive period and is expected to return to training on January 2.
