Thursday January 7 2010 will see Kaizer Chiefs Football Club celebrate four decades since it was founded by Kaizer Motaung, Ewert Nene and others. Since inception the club has gone about bringing a new sense of professionalism to the sport of football in the country.

The club has also provided a home for millions of loyal and passionate supporters whose contribution has created a massive culture of winning both on and outside the field of play.

It is therefore gratifying that in the beginning of 2010 when the global spotlight will shine glowingly on South Africa as the country prepares to host the FIFA World Cup from June 11th – July 11th. Kaizer Chiefs begins the year by celebrating forty years of being a trendsetter on the South African Football scene.

Over the years Kaizer Chiefs, through their slogan of love and peace and uniting all persons of South Africa the club has become the most popular and best supported in the country. With the support of their legions of fans Kaizer Chiefs has been able to turn their success by amassing the most number of trophies more than any other club in the other country.

On the occasion of Chiefs 40th Birthday Amakhosi Chairman and club co founder Kaizer Motaung recollected the early days of the club saying, “it important for us to remember those of us who started this giant that we call Kaizer Chiefs. We acknowledge the contributions of players, officials and recognize the important foundation they laid 40 years ago. As I salute them it is still gratifying to see that the gigantic ship is still floating and on course. I pay tribute to all those who laid their lives and those who continuously embrace our current challenges, aspirations, growth and development”.

The Chairman also gave special mention to the fans for their support down the years as he said; “We pay special tribute to our fans that have been the life blood of our team and have contributed immensely towards the growth and success of this brand. To coin a cliché, they have always been our twelfth player. We hope those that are engaged in taking the journey forward will continue to hoist the flag. We also thank the media for the part they have played and the entire soccer fraternity for their support”.

The fortieth year celebration would obviously spread throughout the year through innovative and exciting programmes spread through supporters, management, players and stakeholders that have always identified with this massive and successful brand.

As always said, “life begins at forty” and Kaizer Chiefs enters a new millennium of excitement as it stretches its influence beyond the realms of field success to further impact and touch the lives of all those that have and continuously shout the love and peace mantra!
