He was told by his assistant that he had to attend to a very urgent matter in the boardroom. Upon entering which he found the staff lined up belting out the best of wishes for him on this special day. Due to time constraints the chairman was unable to stay long and after a quick word of appreciation, he sampled his birthday cake and made off for his meeting.
Not a day over 21
Born in Orlando East in Soweto in 1944, the Chiefs Chairman and managing director began his professional playing career at the age of 16. He is the fifth of nine siblings. He has four elder sisters, three younger brothers and a younger sister. In his brief vote of thanks on Tuesday morning he said to members of the Amakhosi staff “this is one day of the year that I enjoy because I turn 21 on this day, no matter what birthday I celebrate I will always feel 21 years old”.
Were the joyful words of a surprised and gleaming Kaizer Motaung, the Chiefs chairman is expected to spend time with his family later on Tuesday.
Brotherly tribute
Cecil Motaung Kaizer Chiefs supporters relations manager and his brother, was on hand with the rest of the Chiefs staff to lay on a surprise for his older sibling.
Afterwards Cecil said of his brother “my entire life I have looked up to my brother he has been the best example that any one could ask for in an older sibling. On this day I have to take my hat off to him and wish him all the best and my hope is that we can share many more birthdays together, he may be 63 I am sure he could still out run me”.
