Table Toppers Kaizer Chiefs stretched their winning run to five matches by beating SuperSport United 2-0 in an Absa Premiership encounter at the FNB Stadium in Soweto on Saturday evening.

Chiefs turned on the style in the second-half and extended up their lead at the top of the league table to four points after five fixtures thanks to goals from Mandla Masango and Kingston Nkhatha.

Staurt Baxter resisted any tinkering to his side, naming the same eleven that dispatched Platinum Stars in midweek.

Meanwhile, SuperSport United Under-19 coach Kaitano Tembo, who took charge of the Tshwane based team for this weekend’s game following the sacking of Cavin Johnson, made four changes as Matsatsanta aimed to break their two game losing streak.

Mor Diouf, Roscoe Pietersen and Dove Wome returned while Ryan Chapman was handed his first start for the club.

The Amakhosi were expected to dominate a depleted SuperSport outfit, but Wome went some way to dismiss any such suggestions by shooting inches wide of Itumeleng Khune's goal in the opening minute.

Chiefs though soon started to display an enterprising brand of football towards the end of the first half and firmly stamped their authority in the second.

A string of good defensive interventions denied Chiefs before George Maluleka forced Ronwen Williams into a diving save on the cusp off halftime.

Like in the first half, SuperSport looked the more menacing in the opening exchanges of the half.

Roscoe Pietersen and Bennett Chenene both finding themselves in acres of space, but could only manage to hit their efforts straight at Itumeleng Khune.

Mandla Masango continued his rich scoring form, grabbing the opener in the 63rd minute. Masango picked up the ball on the edge of the area before playing a neat one two with Reneilwe Letsholonyane before firing past Ronwen Williams to net his third goal of the campaign.

Nkhatha doubled the hosts’ lead in the 71st minute; Letsholonyane's miscued effort fell favourably for the Zimbabwe international who poked home from close range.

Things could have been even worse for SuperSport two minutes from time, but the crossbar came to their rescue. Maluleka who formerly played for SuperSport, broke through the defence before chipping Williams, his effort had his former teammate beaten but not the woodwork.

The loss for SuperSport means they remain third from bottom with only three points from their allotted matches.
