David Obua’s love affair with scoring against Chiefs fellow title contenders, continued on Wednesday night as he converted a first half penalty to earn the Amakhosi a memorable 1-0 victory over the PSL log leaders. Described as a possible title decider Chiefs pulled out all the stops to ensure that they were able to bring Sundowns back to earth and cut back the Brazilians lead at the top of the table to two points.

In a game which provided end to end action, the large crowd at the FNB Stadium were kept enthralled through out the game; early on David Obua dispossessed Josta Dladla to start what was an entertaining dual between the two. Chiefs earliest opportunity came after ten minutes as David Radebe cut through the Sundowns defence and laid back a pass to Zwane who skied the ball ten rows back.

The Dladla - Obua show continued with Dladla leaving Obua in his tracks down the wing and squared the ball for Ndlovu when he should have gone for goal, from then on Chiefs began to believe they could get the desired result. The Amakhosi then began to ascert control of the game. Songwe Chalwe first scored but was adjudged to be in an off side position, then the luck Chiefs needed came their way.

Arthur Zwane sold Sundowns a dummy instead of sending the ball down the wing he sent a ball through the centre for David Radebe, who out sprinted Vuyo Mere who than upended Radebe as he was bearing down on goal. Mere then earned a yellow card and Chiefs a penalty. David Obua than stepped up and sent Dudamel the wrong way to put Chiefs ahead. Just past the half hour Chiefs had the ball in the back of the net, as Gert Schalkwyk managed to squeeze the ball under Dudamel as the ball headed goalwards. David Radebe standing in an off side position pushed the ball over the line.

Sundowns gave all they could to get back into the game in the second half and for all their trying could not find the back of the net. Torrealba lead the fight back but could only find the side netting early on. All thoughts of a Sundowns come back went up in cinders as Sundowns goal keeper Dudamel had to leave the pitch due to an injury he picked up during a goal mouth melee. Having already made their allotted substitutions, Sundowns had to end the game with ten men as Surprise Moriri had to take over the goal keeping duties for the last ten minutes of the game.

Chiefs have brought back Sundowns to within shooting distance with a game against Dynamos on Saturday and Sundowns again in a week's time being at the top of the log at the end of the month is a real possibility.
