Having successfully negotiated their way through two tricky preliminary rounds, Kaizer Chiefs embark for Egypt this week to begin their 2025/26 TotalEnergies CAF Confederations Cup campaign proper with a fixture against Al Masry at the Suez stadium on Sunday, 23 November.
On the back of a notable uptick in league form recently, Amakhosi will travel to North Africa with the belief that they can compete successfully against their first opponents in a Group D that also includes another Egyptian side, Zamalek, and Zesco United from Zambia.
www.kaizerchiefs.com caught up with striker, Flavio Da Silva during the FIFA international break to get his impressions of the early stages of his career as a Glamour Boy and his views on the upcoming trip to the Land of the Pharaohs.
“I’m feeling good. This is a process and takes time. Things started slowly; I wasn’t playing, but the team is more important than any player. Now, I am up to speed, so I am happy to have helped the team with a few goals,” he says of the four goals he has scored this season.
Amakhosi possess significant firepower within their squad, boasting a strike force that contains likes of Khanyisa Mayo, Wandile Duba, Glody Lilepo, Etiosa Ighodaro, Ashley Du Preez and Da Silva himself, all of whom are working tirelessly to increase their output in order to convert the team’s impressive build-up play into tangible rewards.
“We all want to score more goals,” the 29-year-old, who was recently called up to the Guinea-Bissau squad for an international against Angola which was unfortunately cancelled, admits, before adding, “It’s not just about Flavio or any individual; it’s for the team because it is up to us to finish off the opportunities created by our teammates. It is a personal ambition to score but it is for the benefit of the team.”
Da Silva will be hoping to get the opportunity to help Amakhosi make a statement right at the outset of their quest for continental glory when they face Al Masry in their own back yard.
“We are preparing with determination and ambition. We really want to get off to a strong start in the group with a good result against Al Masry, which will be difficult, but we are ready to rise to the challenge,” he states.
The match kicks off at 18:00 and will be broadcast live on SuperSport’s Channel 209.
