Amakhosi enjoy great support in Botswana

Kaizer Chiefs took their preparation for the upcoming 2019/20 season to Botswana over the past weekend at the invitation of Botswana’s Premier League champions, Township Rollers.

Amakhosi traveled to the neighbouring country on Friday, 19 July. In demonstration of the resounding support we enjoy in Botswana, our supporters gave the Phefeni Glamour Boys a warm welcome at the Tlokweng border.

The team proceeded to the capital city Gaborone to be welcomed at the hotel by hosts, Township Rollers’ officials. While another group of supporters were also waiting at the hotel in anticipation of the arrival of the team bus.

On Friday night, Chiefs’ marketing team held a consultative meeting with the Botswana supporters’ branch. Key issue that are of importance to the club and supporters were raised, discussed and addressed. The marketing team also provided some updates and shared information with the supporters about the membership card, team preparation, player acquisitions, etc. The marketing team sent by the club also took some important feedback to the head office.

On Saturday, a friendly match took place against Township Rollers. The match was staged at the newly built Jamali Stadium in Tlokweng. Hosts, Popa Popa Ya Ipopa as Rollers are affectionately known, won the friendly match 2-1. Bernard Parker opened the scoring in the 2nd minute of the match, but Rollers responded with goals scored by Kaone van der Westhuizen and Tumisang Orebonye.

Batswana were excited as they got to be the first to see our new recruits Samir Nurković, Kearyn Baccus and Lazalous Kambole. The trio started the match while James Kotei was among the substitutes. Most of the Chiefs players that took part at 2019 AFCON in Egypt were rested with the exception of goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma, who made the trip and was in goals for the match.

Both sets of supporters came in big numbers and the stadium was filled to near capacity. At the end, supporters embraced the occasion and the excitement filtered outside the stadium, with cheering supporters lining the streets to greet Amakhosi as team’s bus made its way out of the stadium the stadium.

The team traveled back to South Africa to prepare for the much-anticipated Carling Black Label Cup billed for Satuday at the FNB stadium against Orlando Pirates. The Carling Cup which is already sold out will mark the final dress rehearsal for the upcoming football season.
