The session which saw 120 kids from the local schools and some clubs took place immediately after the Chiefs players had gone through a gruelling two hour training session, the Chiefs players had no complaints about sticking around for another hour to bring sunshine to the kids lives on what could only be described as a miserable and gloomy day from a weather point of view.
The kids were put through a number of different grids which included them playing each other in a four on four game as well as a special section on goalkeeping for beginners conducted by goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker.
Chiefs on trial goalie Ryan Wuest was in a generous mood as he allowed a number of the kids to score against him in a special penalty drill adding afterwards “the idea was for them to enjoy themselves and I wanted to lift their spirits so I allowed them to enjoy the rush of putting one past me, as long as they enjoyed the occasion”.
Themba Lugedle from the nearby Sophakhama Primary School was elated at having met the players who represent his number one team and said “all the players were very kind and they helped to teach me a couple of new moves which I will use on my friends”.
The youngster who hails from the town of Duoon which is not too far away from Stellenbosch when questioned as to which of the Chiefs players he most admired answered swiftly and said “it has to be Thabo Mooki, he has good touches on the ball and he can also do a lot of tricks I am his number one fan”.
Once the clinic had ended the participants were given a number of gifts from the club which included a vuvuzela and signed post cards of each player as well as Technical staff members, including Coach Ernst Middendorp and assistant Coach Frank Eulberg.
After they were handed their gifts the kids were treated to a lunch feast arranged for them by Kaizer Chiefs and organized by Marketing Manager Jessica Motaung who said “we have come to an area that we don’t regularly visit so it was important for us to do something positive here.
Judging by the reactions of the youngsters I think they really enjoyed the clinic. We also want to demonstrate to the kids that the players are human beings like the rest of us and let the kids know them better and allow for the players to become role models for them”.
