As games between The Amakhosi and their rivals from the capital usually are, when the two team mates met in the corresponding fixture last season, it was Chiefs who walked home the winners.
With Gordon Ingesund now at the helm at Sundowns, a new dimension has been added to the age old rivalry between the two teams, with the three-times PSL winning coach also looking to continue his personal battle with The Amakhosi.
As he has had some intense games when he has come up against Chiefs with the various teams he has coached in the PSL since its inauguration in 1996. His most notable achievement over occurred during the inaugural season of the PSL in the 1996 – 1997, season when he helped unfancied Manning Rangers win the championship ahead of Chiefs.
Amakhosi coach Ernst Middendorp is aware of Ingesund’s pedigree as a Championship winning coach, but is confident that his team will emerge the victors on October 14th.
“Last season we won one game against Sundowns and lost one this time around we will be aiming to win both games against them, starting with our game next weekend”, commented Amakhosi coach Ernst Middendorp.
Tickets for the eagerly awaited clash between the challengers and the title holders are currently on sale at Computicket as well as Shoprite – Checkers outlets nationwide as well as The Amakhosi Store located in Gandhi Square in the Johannesburg CBD.
The cost of a ticket for Adults wishing to attend the game is R20 and juvenile tickets can also be purchased at a cost of R10. Kick-off for the game is scheduled at 15h15 and with a full house is expected for the game, Chiefs head of security and logistics Thami Mayaluza has reiterated the fact that tickets will not be on sale at the Stadium on the day of the game.
