Club spokesperson Putco Mafani, who together with Doctor Khumalo visited Brenda twice and prayed for her while she laid sick in hospital said in the club’s statement that "Brenda was among few artists who against all odds stood for justice during the dark days of apartheid, documented her stand for a ‘Black President’ and ‘a Good Black Woman” in song.
She was not a coward but had liberty to proclaim her feelings and thoughts, articulating the lifestyle of Black people and their survival in townships and the hardships they endured. More than most artists she lived everyday to the fullest and had love for her fans.
"Brenda epitomised South African black excellence, a product of hopeless situations, typical of the debris of oppression but was sustained by an incomparable sense of greatness and talent. It is with this background that her life should be celebrated by not only those in arts and culture but by all South Africans, Africans and her fans elsewhere around the world and we at Kaizer Chiefs salute Brenda for her sense of Blackness, and having inspired many of us to enjoy the shift from nothingness to worthiness.
A soldier of Talent, a poet of Love, a voice of Joy! We shall remember Brenda particularly for her artistry in live performances and the songs she performed at different stadiums around the country, contributing in entertaining our soccer fans’, said Mafani.
Mafani said her family, in particular her only son, Bongani will need a lot of support from everyone that came in touch with Brenda. His sense of purpose will largely depend on the moral support he gets from those around him.
"To the Fassie family kindly receive our condolences for this loss, and find comfort in the words of the Apostle Paul, II Timothy 4:7,8 which reads ‘I have fought the good fight, I have kept the faith, I have finished the race, and now there lies for me a crown, which the righteous judge God himself will give to me and to all those who await His second appearing’.
