Cosmos though clawed their way back into the game when Chris Katongo scored from a well taken free kick by Sipho Sephadi on the right.
Chiefs had let the two points slip by not turning first half possession and opportunities into goals and at the end had to share the points with Cosmos.
Chiefs took the lead after a Fabian McCarthy overhead kick fell between the opposition goalkeeper and defense, with no one taking responsibility for clearing the ball Serge Djiehoua took advantage and scored his second goal in as many games.
Chiefs dominated the first half of play and a host of players had the opportunity to increase the lead before the break.
Chief’s best chance of the half was on 24 minute which saw some neat inter passing between Derrick Spencer and Arthur Zwane which saw the latter attempt saved by Khumalo in the Cosmos goal.
Whereas Chiefs dominated the first half Cosmos just shaved the Amakhosi in the second period, where they were able to snatch a goal and share the spoils.
The Amakhosi have Rowen Fernandez to thank has he made three saves from point blank range to keep Chiefs in the encounter.
Chiefs had the opportunity to seal victory late on but Louis Agyemang was unable to place his shot as he dragged it over the cross bar.
Chiefs now look forward to their clash this weekend with Bloemfontein Celtic at Vodacom Park in Bloemfontein.
Post game Comments
Ernst Middendorp (Kaizer Chiefs coach): We had the game in our hands in the first half and we did not grab hold of it, the opposition saw this and came out more attacking in the second half. We cannot blame anybody but ourselves the three points were there for the taking and we threw two of them away. To me we will need to regroup and go to Bloemfontein in a positive frame of mind.
Jomo Sono (Cosmos coach): Both teams gave away silly goals, Chiefs had the opportunity to win the game and they did not it let us back in and we got what we wanted out of the game. It was not a great game so both teams should be happy.
Rowen Fernandez (Kaizer Chiefs Star Performer): I just feel that we should have wrapped the game up in the first half and than sat back and held onto a comfortable lead. We made our own life difficult which we need to ensure we do not do again, it is sad to drop points but we need to learn from this and go onto the next game.
