Adding to the Achilles tendon injury of Tshepo Bulu, which the young Chiefs midfielder picked up during a training session on Monday morning, The Amakhosi have taken further casualties as the weekends PSL fixture against Jomo Cosmos nears.

Amakhosi coach Muhsin Ertugral was not pleased with the fact that he will be without the services of Mandla Masango and first choice goalkeeper Emile Baron for the meeting with Cosmos, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday evening at the ABSA Stadium in Durban. The pair injured themselves in separate incidents during a practice match played on Tuesday afternoon in Eldorado Park south of Johannesburg.

Masango missing

Muhsin Ertugral was on Wednesday making contingency plans to deal with the loss of Mandla Masango, the young attack minded midfielder made a bright start to his Chiefs career scoring on debut last week during Chiefs 2-0 win over Benoni Premier United.

Masango’s quick fire start to his Chiefs career had quickly won favor with the Chiefs coach, and his absence from Saturday’s game will not be a welcome one. The eighteen year old midfielder according to the Chiefs team doctor suffered a grade two concussion when he clashed heads with an FC AK player during Tuesday’s practice game, he was taken to hospital where a number of tests and x-rays were conducted on him.

The results of those tests and x-rays were good and showed no sign of neck misalignment or brain damage to the player, the Chiefs medical team have requested that as a precautionary measure he be rested for the rest of the week.

Baron injury agony back

Just as things were looking up for Emille Baron he has been hit by injury again, the Amakhosi number one injured his thigh during Tuesday’s game while taking a goal kick. The injury to the Chiefs goalkeeper comes at a time when he was displaying the kind of form he did during the latter part of 2005 and early 2006 prior to him having to go for a shoulder operation.

At this stage it is not known how long Emille is expected to be on the sidelines, in all likelihood he will be replaced by Markus Bocsker in the starting eleven for Saturday’s game.
