Kaizer Chiefs bowed out of the 2001 Bob Save Super Bowl competition after a 2-0 defeat by Sundowns in the semifinals played at FNB Stadium on Sunday.

Both sides were level 0-0 at half time with Chiefs enjoying the better part of ball possession in the first stanza but failed to convert some of the scoring chances.

Burly Nigerian striker Raphael Chukwu connected to a through ball from Bennett Mnguni in the 59th minute and shook off Lifa Gqosha to put the Pretoria side in the lead.

A defensive error by Malawian international Patrick Mabedi in the 68th minute handed Chukwu another chance to increase the lead and ended Amakhosi’s ambitions of retaining the Super Bowl.

Sundowns will now play against Santos, who defeated Moroka Swallows with a Jean-Marc Ithier last minute goal, in the final to be played on June 9 at FNB Stadium.
