With the 2010-2011 season done and dusted Kaizerchiefs.com takes a look back at the last campaign and analyzes the Amakhosi’s performances against their opponents breaking them down by province as Chiefs look to increase their points tally in the new season.

Free State

In their first round matches Chiefs had differing fortunes against the Free State Teams, defeating Celtic 1-0 at home before losing to Stars by the same score line in Phutadijaba. The script was similar in the return games as Chiefs won a point in the last minutes of both games to earn a 2-2 draw and then a 1-1 draw with Celtic and Stars respectively. From their four games against Free State sides Chiefs won one game, lost one and drew two winning five out of a possible 12 points.

Gauteng

In their home province Chiefs fared well in ten league games against the five Gauteng teams Chiefs lost just one game and won seven of these matches while drawing the remaining two. Amazingly Chiefs won all of their first round games against Gauteng opponents and Sundowns were the only team from province to defeat them, while they recorded home and away victories over SuperSport United and Moroka Swallows and went undefeated in league games against eventual Absa Premiership Champions Orlando Pirates. Chiefs took 23 points out of a possible 30 against Gauteng teams, their largest points haul against their provincial rivals in recent campaigns.

23/30

Kwa-Zulu Natal

Chiefs began their season with a 2-0 victory over a team from this province namely Golden Arrows and completed their campaign with a goal in the final minutes to see off another AmaZulu 2-1on the final day. Chiefs enjoyed much success in all competition in 2010 – 2011 against Kwa–Zulu Natal teams winning seven of eight games against Natal based sides. In league action Chiefs were undefeated against Kwa-Zulu Natal teams winning five of their six matches against these sides teams with a drawn game against Maritzburg United the only blight on a perfect scorecard, as they collected 16 points out of a possible 18 from the province.

Mpumalanga

The Amakhosi defeated Mpumalanga Black Aces home and away, Chiefs fastest goal of the season was against Aces in the first round meeting between the teams. Musona striking with a spectacular over head kick in the opening minute of the game, Chiefs collected six points out six against Aces.

6/6

North West

Chiefs played to a goalless draw at home against Platinum Stars but edged a five goal thriller 3-2 in Rustenburg to see off Stars in the second clash between the teams, courtesy of a Reneilwe Letsholonyane brace. As they twice came from behind to ensure that they collected a total of four out of six points from Owen Da Gama’s team.

4/6

Western Cape

Perhaps the Achilles heel of Chiefs season as the Amakhosi struggled against teams from the Cape winning just one of six games, in the opening round Chiefs loss to Santos, Vasco Da Gama and Ajax Cape Town. In the return matches they managed to draw with Santos and Vasco in Cape Town, before producing their best performance of the season in their penultimate game of the campaign with a 4-0 demolition of Ajax which effectively severely damaged the Urban Warriors title challenge. Of a possible 18 points Chiefs picked up five against teams from the Western Cape.
