Kaizer Chiefs, in collaboration with the Polokwane Municipality and key corporate partners, visited Mphagani Village in the Greater Giyani Municipality on Friday morning to provide express solidarity and provide relief to families affected by the devastating floods that recently struck Limpopo.
The floods caused widespread destruction across the province, with Giyani among the hardest hit areas, tragically claiming 27 lives. In response, Kaizer Chiefs mobilised their outreach programme to lend a helping hand to the affected communities.
The initiative was led by Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, alongside Polokwane Mayor Cllr. John Mpe, Mopani District Executive Mayor Cllr. Pule Shayi, Greater Giyani Mayor Cllr. Thandi Zitha, and traditional leader Hosi Dzumeri. Hosi Dzumeri Kaizer Chiefs and the City of Polokwane with gratitude for identifying Mphagani Village and offering meaningful assistance during this difficult time.
Kaizer Chiefs’ sponsors and partners, including partners Masingita Mall, Masingita Plaza, Nkuna Kraal, Nkuna Kraal Spar, SuperSportBet, Vodacom, Kappa, Eendag Muele (eMilling), In2Food and Brima Logistics contributed significantly to the programme, ensuring that relief efforts reached those most in need.
Dr Ramathuba commended Kaizer Chiefs for their immense support, thanking Chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung for sending the Club’s leadership and management to spearhead the initiative. She emphasised the importance of collaboration in rebuilding communities, describing the gesture as “an investment in human life.”
The Kaizer Chiefs delegation was led by Football Manager, Bobby Motaung, and Head of Digital, Kemiso Motaung, supported by members of the management team, plus players, Tashreeq Morris, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, and Bradley Cross.
Amakhosi’s Marketing and Commercial Director, Jessica Motaung, reflected on the Club’s responsibility to give back, quoting the adage: “To whom much is given, much is required.” She extended condolences to families who lost loved ones and encouraged the community to continue on their path of healing and recovery.
“We are encouraged by the people of Giyani who have already begun the process of healing, recovery, and restoration after the tumultuous period of torrential rains and floods. We know that the human spirit always triumphs in adversity, and we are delighted to have contributed to the people of Giyani in the way we did as part of our social responsibility. We are also thankful to all the partners involved as well as the people of Giyani for welcoming us in the village of Mphagani,” she said.
This initiative underscores Kaizer Chiefs’ commitment to uplifting communities and demonstrates the power of unity between government, corporate partners, and football in making a lasting difference.
