Premier Soccer League South African Airways Supa8
Match Number 1: FNB Stadium, Johannesburg
12th August 2006
Temperature: 22 ° C, Wind NW 21.0 km/h, Cloud Cover no significant cover
The Amakhosi were dealt a server blow just prior to kick off against Golden Arrows in their opening game of the SAA Supa8 Tournament, at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday afternoon.
This after Coach Ernst Middendorp was told by the Chiefs medical team that striker Shaun Bartlett who picked up an injury in training on Thursday afternoon would be unavailable for selection. Bartlett misses the Arrows clash but Chiefs do have Arthur Zwane and Patrick Mayo available to take the field and Ernst Middendorp has selected the pair to start against Arrows.
Ernst Middendorp has shifted his personnel around and with Bartlett unavailable he has given Patrick Mayo a berth up front, he will be partnering Louis Agyemang in attack as Chiefs go in search of their third straight Cup Victory against Chiefs.
A week ago Arthur Zwane was in inspired form when he came on against Sundowns in the second half of the Telkom Charity Cup semi final, he and fellow substitute and man of the match against Sundowns David Mathebula will be running the wings for The Amakhosi against Arrows.
Mathebula was the inspiration behind Chiefs second half fight back against Sundowns and has done enough to convince the coach to give him the opportunity to play for a full ninety minutes.
The Amakhosi are unbeaten against Arrows under Ernst Middendorp and they will be hoping that the likes of the 2005 SAA Supa8 player of the tournament Siyabonga Nkosi can display the same kind of form he did when he helped his former team Bloemfontein Celtic win the Supa8 trophy a year ago.
Chiefs are out on Saturday afternoon in search of a double hat trick over Arrows, victory for Chiefs will be their third straight victory over Arrows and it will also complete a hat trick of victories in Cup matches for Chiefs over Arrows.
