Amakhosi ready to answer Usuthu poser

Kaizer Chiefs have been working hard on the training ground over the past few days as they aim to put behind them the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to Ajax Cape Town in their last league outing.

The Amakhosi have the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways when they take on Amazulu in their next league encounter at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Wednesday evening.

The recent history

Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic will have good memories of playing against Amazulu, it was against the Usuthu that Chiefs registered their first league win under the guidance of the Serbian mentor. When they beat Amazulu 3-2 during a league game last season on the 29th of August 2009, the teams met earlier this season in a Telkom Knock Out Cup ¼ final clash Chiefs won 2-0.

In the corresponding fixture last season the Amakhosi defeated Amazulu 1-0, which helped them register home and away wins over the Durban based side. Wednesday evenings clash is also the first league game to be contested between Chiefs and Amazulu at the revamped FNB Stadium, their last meeting at the Stadium before it renovations in May 2004 saw Chiefs defeat Amazulu 4-1.

Current form

Chiefs enter the game having seen their three game winning streak come to an end against Ajax Cape Town last Friday, the Amakhosi still have the best defence in the league and were beaten by a converted penalty. Amazulu are winless in 2011 having been defeated by Mamelodi Sundowns and most recently they went down 2 – 1 in the Durban derby to Golden Arrows.

With both teams coming into the game on the back of loses they will be determined to turn their fortunes around which will in all likelihood see both teams enter the game with an offensive mindset, which could well produce an exciting attacking contest.

Missing out

Chiefs go into the match without Siphiwe Tshabalala the midfielder is away on trial with English Championship side Nottingham Forest for the rest of the week, left back Punch Masenamela misses the game through a suspension.

As does midfield hard man Tinashe Nengomasha who scored for Chiefs the last time they hosted Amazulu at the FNB Stadium in May 2004. Manqoba Mngqithi’s side are minus the suspended Sibusiso Hadebe for the game.
