Amakhosi ready to heat up the summer

Spring has once again rolled into town with all the usual fanfare that greets the coming of longer days and sizzling nights. For the Amakhosi faithful spring brings with it the Coca Cola Cup.

A competition that since it’s new name sponsor took over in 2001 the Amakhosi have been to the final every time winning the competition on three out of four finals appearances. As the summer days get longer and warmer Chiefs players have shown through out the past four seasons that they can sizzle on the pitch as well, with Jabu Pule and Stanton Fredericks coming to the fore in the first final back in 2001 when Chiefs annihilated Cosmos 5-0.

The Amakhosi have relished the challenge with some memorable games including a 3-2 humdinger at Ellis Park in 2003 with the FIFA inspection committee watching the action from the stands.

History is hot on the side of the Amakhosi going into this Thursday’s draw for the first round of matches. The draw will be held at midday on the 8th September at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg.
