The Kaizer Chiefs reserve team bounced back from their 2-0 loss to Jomo Cosmos a week ago, when they collected all three points against their Moroka Swallows counterparts on Thursday afternoon.

First half goals from Louis Agyemang and Serge Djiehoua set Chiefs on their way to a convincing 3-1 win against Swallows, Mame Niang pulled a goal back for Swallows with a 57th minute penalty.

Amakhosi’s Ghanaian striker Louis Agyemang made certain of the points when he competed his brace with just under a quarter of an hour of the game remaining. Kaizer Chiefs reserve team coach Donald ‘Ace’ Khuse looked a happier man after Thursday afternoon’s game, and he should be well pleased with his team who dominated the game and got the result they deserve.

Chiefs began carving the opposition open from as early as the 4th minute when Louis Agyemang found Serge Djiehoua in space inside the Swallows 18 yard area. Agyemang chipped the ball towards Djiehoua who unleashed a scissor kick towards the Swallows goal, where he found Aubrey Mathibe in an inspired move as he made a superb save at point blank range. Djiehoua was able to get to the rebound but again could not turn the ball home and dragged it wide.

In the tenth minute and some what against the run of play Swallows could have found themselves level, as Patrick Thwala delivered the perfect free kick from the right wing into the Chiefs danger zone. Which Mame Niang judged to perfection and was unlucky not to score as he headed the ball against the Chiefs goal post. as the ball came off the post Ryan Wuest was lunged at the ball and was able to pull it out of the air.

Serge Djiehoua was making himself a nuisance to the Swallows defence all afternoon and after nineteen minutes he created a perfect scoring opportunity for himself, as he turned Ashley Opperman inside the penalty box and opened up some space for himself. Again Djiehoua was unable to find the target when he struck a powerful shot from close range as Mathibe came out and blocked the ball with his feet.Two minutes later; Serge was at the heart of another Chiefs attack, as he collected a pass from David Mathebula Serge pulled to the right and sent a return ball which evaded Mathibe and his defence and flew towards David Mathebula who timed the ball superbly with a diving header which went inches wide of Mathibe’s goal.

The Amakhosi were rewarded for their continuous probing of the Swallows defence in the 21st minute, as Siphiwe Mkhonza sent a long ball up field from a free kick Louis Agyemang flicked the ball over Shili and ran after the ball. He then did well to control the ball and turned Shili before lobbing the ball across Mathibe and into the back of the net to hand Chiefs the lead. From the restart Chiefs quickly dispossessed Swallows and Louis Agyemang got the ball to Serge Djiehoua who in turn sent in a cross towards Scara Ngobese who hit the ball on the volley only for Mathibe to again come up trumps with a superb save. From the resulting corner Swallows managed to clear the ball but only as far as Sandile Zuke who skipped past a Swallows player, before unleashing a pile driver from some distance, again Mathibe was up to the challenge as he rose to tip the ball over his post.

Five minutes before the half time break and Chiefs doubled their lead with a well worked goal involving a number of players, starting with goalkeeper Ryan Wuest who got the ball to Gerald Sibeko who rode the challenge of Shili to get the ball out wide on the right to Ditheko Mototo, who ran a few meters with ball before sending in a ball to the danger zone which Serge Djiehoua lunged himself at and headed the ball home to double Chiefs advantage. The first half ended with Chiefs leading 2-0.

Inside the first five minutes of the second half Chiefs squandered two good goal scoring opportunities, in the first instance Louis Agyemang flicked the ball towards Djiehoua who got the ball over Mathibe but not into the net as Shili got in to clear the ball off the line. The next chance fell to Serge Djiehoua who managed to bypass the Swallows offside trap when David Mathebula found him with a long searching cross field ball, Djiehoua in acres of space proceeded to shoot goal wards at the first attempt. Instead of testing the goalkeeper Djiehoua’s attempt at goal was more like a backpass and Mathibe was able to easily collect the ball.

That was on 50 minutes and two minutes on Djiehoua was unfortunate not to have found his way onto the score sheet again, as he headed a ball with a lot of power off a David Mathebula corner downwards and with Mathibe clutching air Djiehoua’s header rattled the post and Mathibe turned around to grab the ball. In the 57th minute Swallows got a lucky break when Lawrence Molekwane fell over the ball while trying to clear it, and hit it with his arm. The referee pointed to the spot and Mame Niang sent Ryan Wuest the wrong way to throw his team life line and gave Swallows the opportunity to fight their way back into the game.

As the game entered a period with out much goal mouth activity Chiefs seemed content with holding onto a 2-1 win, they were almost punished for their lack of concentration when Mame Niang’s header off a Mark Haskin corner in the 69th minute had to be cleared off the line by Gerald Sibeko.

With thirteen minutes to go, Louis Agyemang found the net for the second time in the game, the chance was almost wasted as the ball initially found Serge Djiehoua, who shot goal wards only for the ball to rebound off a defender back to him. Djiehoua then passed the ball to Agyemang who after a tussle with defender and goalkeeper eventually got the ball over the line to restore Chiefs two goal lead.

With three points in the bag, Ace Khuse will be happy with his teams result and performance on Thursday, as the three points that they collected for defeating Swallows as Chiefs remain on top of the reserve league as the first round of games come to an end. The Amakhosi will be aiming for a repeat performance next Monday when they host Benoni Premier United the team that they played against on the opening day of the season back in February.
